You thought it was a real horse... but it was just a phony

We will never know if this little pony had a fish tale or not, as unfortunately it’s rear end was truncated by 1950’s concrete. But we can imagine…

However it is true this skeleton was found within alluvial clay below the earliest Roman deposits on site. No other finds or a cut to suggest burial were found. The skeleton is with the animal bone specialists who may be able to tell us how old it was, how big the horse was and if there is any indication of how it died. At the moment why it was laying in the wet clay is still a mystery.
